Part Two: History Perverted
Godzilla continues to smash his way through the heart of Tokyo. In
front of the great beast, Tokyo's prestigious business district, behind,
burnt and crumbling remains that have become human suffering. The military
has run out of ground weapons to use against the massive creature. Guns,
artillery, tanks, all are powerless against this form of nature gone made.
The only hope now lies in the Japanese Air Defense Force, and attacking Godzilla
while still within the heart of the city would be insane. Godzilla’s
massive bulk dwarfs the structures of the city. Now and then, and without
warning, Godzilla pauses, only to unleash radioactive death from its maul.
From his vantage point high in the Tokyo News Building, United World News
reporter Steve Martin continues his recording of the events as they happen.
The last hour that had past seems like a lifetime to Martin, as the flames
of the holocaust slowly creep closer. "Godzilla has turned the heart
of Tokyo into a sea of fire," Martin reports. "Beneath the flames thousands
lie dead or dying." Martin knows that very few will survive this night.
As Godzilla
continues to make his way thought the city, the chimes of the Wako Clock
Tower catch the creature’s attention. As if chiming the death toll
of its own existence, the structure, which has served as an example of Tokyo's
rebirth after the bombings of the 1940's, awaits Godzilla's wrath.
With a snarling growl, Godzilla snaps at the massive structure, but the chimes
continue. Finally, as if angry at the clock for defying it, Godzilla
topples the clock tower with its massive body. On a nearby radio tower,
television and radio reporters cover the event live to an unbelieving Japan.
The flashes from the newsmen’s cameras catch the creature's eye angering
the beast. Godzilla slowly turns towards the tower. Frozen with
terror, but unable to stop his report, a T.V. anchor continues his broadcast
as Godzilla bites into the structure of the tower, sending it plummeting
to the ground in a series of twisted beams and girders.
In the streets,
the screams of the dying can be heard over the sirens of military and police
units trying to administer to the wounded. Two fire engines,
desperately trying to reach the wounded, swerve off the streets and into
the buildings as the path they chose takes them straight into Godzilla.
Throughout the chaos, no one has noticed the dome shaped figures which glided
silently through the streets, completely unaffected by the human horror.
A slight tremor shakes the warehouse as Godzilla moves closer. The
Doctor crouches low behind one of the wooden packing crates, which fill the
storage area of the warehouse cellar. He is completely shielded from
view of the Daleks. In the middle of the main storage area, the Daleks
have set up their base of operations. Computer and monitoring equipment
litter the far walls of the room. The Doctor immediately recognizes
the equipment as Dalek temporal devices. 'So at least I know how they
got here,' The Doctor thinks to himself. "But why are they here?'
No less than three Daleks slide across the floor monitoring the equipment
and making adjustments to the temporal fields. 'Whatever their up to,'
The Doctor thinks, 'their doing it big.'
Suddenly
a movement in a doorway catches the Doctor's eye. From a side entrance
two Dalek units come gliding into the command center. The Doctor looks
on as they pass the line of equipment and approach the far side of the room.
Stirring in the corner, shaded from view, a figure exits the shadows.
It was another Dalek, but this Dalek is taller and somewhat bigger than the
rest. It's dome lights are large and oblong shaped, it had a claw attachment
rather than the standard "sucker" arm, but it was the gold and silver trim
over its black casing which told the Doctor immediately that this was the
Dalek Supreme. The Black Dalek!
"Re-Port,"
the Dalek Supreme grates, its voice a slightly lower version of the slow monotone
voice that the standard units spoke in. "A humanoid body has fallen
through the grating from the street above," the first Dalek responds.
'A humanoid body!' The Doctor was alarmed, 'Sam!?' "It was dead,"
the first Dalek continues. "The area is secured." "Excellent,"
the Dalek Supreme responds. "We will begin the final phase of our operation
as soon as it has been reported that phases two and three are complete."
'So they've made it to their final phase,' The Doctor thinks. 'I may
have less time than I guessed.' Gliding over to the battle computer,
the Dalek Supreme surveys the readouts mounted into the surface. Turning
to the Dalek at the controls, "Are Units 2 and 5 in position?" The
Dalek quickly surveys a series of readouts, then swivels its eye stick to
address its commander. "Units 2 and 5 report they are in position.
Unit 2 reports that it will exterminate Doctor Fukunaga upon your command."
"Good," the Black Dalek responds. "Order Unit 2 to proceed."
"I obey," the Dalek at the controls once again swivels its eye stick to examine
the readouts as before, then it activates a number of switches. After
a moment it disengages from the Battle Computer and turns to face its commander.
"Unit 2 reports that it is in position." "Good," the Black Dalek grates.
"Report on Unit 5." A third Dalek glides over from another panel, its
eye stick swiveling to address its commander. "Unit 5 reports ten rels
to target. Upon your command it will exterminate Doctor Yamane."
Doctor Fukunaga placed the phone back on its receiver; he could not believe
the news he had just received. The sounds of Godzilla's rampage echoed
faintly in the background. The news from Central Command was not good.
Godzilla continues to make its way across Tokyo and nothing the military
had put against the creature seemed to work. If only a plan could be
developed, a new approach to stopping Godzilla. His thoughts were cut
off by his eldest son Taki, rushing in from the next room. Taki had
insisted that they should leave and head to one of the shelters, but Fukunaga
insisted that he had to stay in contact with Central Command. The two
had argued and Fukunaga had won, but now Taki was determined to get his farther
to safety.
"It is foolish
for you to stay," Taki said to his father. "Your death will accomplish
nothing!" Fukunaga knew that his son was right, but he had to keep working
to find a solution. "I can not abandon my work, or our people," Fukunaga
said to his son, turning back to the table which held his papers.
Taki stares at his father's back in disbelief. "And who will serve
our people if you die tonight?" Fukunaga says nothing but continues to pour
over his notes. While his father had been on the phone Taki had packed
a small bag containing all of his father's important papers. He knew
his father would refuse to leave the house without them, and now, with them
in his possession, Taki was going to force his father to leave. "While
you may be willing to die," Taki continues, "I am not." "I've taken all your
notes and research and have them here," he held up the briefcase. "We
can get to safety and you can continue from there."
Doctor Fukunaga
still refuses to go, he insist that he could better serve the situation by
staying put and working on some plan that might destroy Godzilla. "We
did not run away during the war," he told his son, "what makes you think
I am going to run now?" Taki was completely frustrated by this point.
He has had this argument with his father before, and it was the main point
of their argument tonight. "This is not the war," Taki points out to
his father. "We are not fighting some human enemy of Japan but a force
of nature." "You would not stay if Fuji was erupting, it’s the same
thing now." All Fukunaga could do was look up from his papers and give
his son a long sad look. "Is it?" he says quickly. "Is
it the same thing?"
Taki had
enough of this argument. He was leaving and he was taking his father
whether he wants to leave or not. "I am going to put these papers into
the automobile and then I'm coming back." He makes his way towards the entrance
hall. Turning towards his father, "Be ready to leave when I return."
And with that he strode out of the room. Fukunaga was sad, and
shook his head. His son just could not understand the severity of the
situation. The danger not just Tokyo, but the whole world was in.
He has to find a solution, it is his duty. These thoughts occupy his mind
as he turns back to his papers. Suddenly there is a blinding flash
of light, and the sound of Taki screaming echoes through the house.
'Surely
Godzilla had not reached this part of the city,' Fukunaga thinks as he races
towards the entranceway. As he rounds the entrance to the hallway his
heart freezes in terror. Lying on the floor is the smoldering remains of
his son's body. The suitcase holding his important papers is still
clutched in Taki's charred hand. Over the body stood what Fukunaga
could only assume was an apparition from hell. With a grating voice that
could only belong to the devil himself the metallic creature moves past his
son's body and into the house. "Exterminate." The Dalek grates
as it fires at point blank range. The force of the energy weapon catches
Fukunaga full in the chest and sends him flying backwards into the wall.
His body hits with such force that the plaster crumbles, then his smoldering
remains slide slowly to the floor. The Dalek stands there for a moment
as if to relish in its victory. Then, pointing its gun stick
at Fukunaga's body, it fires again. The blast causes the body to convulse,
as if it was performing a little dance, and for a moment, just a moment,
it seems as if Doctor Fukunaga had come to life again. Satisfied, the
Dalek slowly turns and precedes out of the house. The plan was proceeding
on schedule and soon they would posses the ultimate weapon. If Daleks
did have emotions then this Dalek would have been smiling at itself as it
disappears into the night.
The Doctor could not believe his ears. Doctor Yamane was Japan's leading
paleontologist. What possible purpose could his death be in serving
the Daleks? The Doctor decides that he has to chance getting a closer
look. He has to discover why the Daleks have invaded 1956 Japan.
Ever so slowly he creeps around the far side of the shipping crates towards
the entranceway he had seen the two Daleks first enter from. His path
took him out of view of the Daleks for a moment and over to towards the power
terminals and fuses that provided power to the old building. As he
slowly climbed over the cables he made certain not to touch the frayed and
exposed ends. 'One wrong move,' he thinks, 'and its good-bye to this
regeneration.'
As he made
his way through and over several crates he continues to listen, the Dalek
Supreme was obviously addressing all the Daleks. "Our plan is proceeding
to schedule. The mutated creature is destroying the city. This
has allowed us to complete phase two. We will now put phase three into
action. Units 1, 4 and 6 will proceed to the destination point.
Upon arrival you will exterminate Doctor Serizawa. You will seize the
Oxygen Destroyer! With the Oxygen Destroyer as a weapon, the Daleks
will become invincible. Nothing will stand in the way of the Daleks!"
'So that
was it,' The Doctor thinks. 'The Oxygen Destroyer, one of the most
terrible weapons ever invented by man.' He has to stop them from getting
that. "The Daleks will become invincible!" the Black Dalek repeats.
On the last cord all of the Daleks began mimicking their leader. "The
Daleks will become invincible!" "The Daleks will become invincible!"
"The Daleks will become invincible!"
"Nothing
can save the city now." From his vantage point, Steven Martin watches
in terror as Godzilla continues his rampage through Tokyo. Godzilla
seems completely unstoppable, and everything the Japanese have thrown at
the creature has failed. Now, with nothing left to try, the city is
doomed. Structures crumble under Godzilla's mighty weight, as people
scurry to get out of its path. Those who are unlucky enough to stumble
in site of Godzilla are turned into instant flames. The creature continues
to make his way through the streets of the city. As it draw closer,
his fellow reporters begin to panic and flee from the building, but Martin
is determined to stay.
Sam slowly makes her way out of the vault space and down the corridor the two Daleks had taken. She has to find out what the Daleks are up to, and she has to warn The Doctor. Suddenly a stream of Daleks come gliding down the corridor straight for her! Looking for cover, Sam ducks under a series of pipes, which run along the far wall of the corridor towards the boilers, just as the Dalek squadron pass her. The events of this night have quickly turned from the bizarre into a nightmare and she could only imagine what horrors the Daleks were off to now. Sam knew what the Daleks were capable of; she knew they had to be stopped. But how? Crawling out from the safety of the pipes Sam tries to think of a course of action. The Daleks rely on static electricity for their power source, but she could not think of how that knowledge would serve her now. There is a low trembling and the entire building shakes. Sam finds herself ducking for cover back under the pipes to escape from falling plaster. There is another tremor, and a nearby wall partially collapses.
seen. The floor towards The Doctor is piled high with shipping crates
and Sam begins climbing the crates in the hopes of reaching The Doctor.
The Doctor has not noticed Sam's entrance, for he is busy trying to devise
a plan which would stop them, otherwise he would have been concerned over
the fact that the creates Sam was now climbing on brought her dangerously
close to the Daleks' equipment.
