Monster of the Month: Gigan

As the films of the 1970s progressed, Godzilla foes became more "Ultraman" like, and no monster emphasis this more than Gigan. Created by intelligent cockroaches from an Earth-like planet (whose human inhabitants destroyed themselves), Gigan is a true cyborg, half living creature, half machine. The giant chicken (as he has been called in fan circles), can fly, shoot a laser beam from his single eye (although he never does so in any film), and cut through anything with buzz-saw-like spikes imbedded in his chests. He has trice fought the King of the Monsters, the first time along side King Ghidorah in Children's Land, the second along side Megalon (when the Seatopians requested help), and finally as a weapon of Baron Garoga (in the "Meteor-Man Zone" TV series), where, although beaten up by Godzilla, he is finally killed by Zone Fighter.
