Monster of the Month: Baragon

This month we look at Japan's least popular kaiju, but a favorite of everyone here at KaijuFan OnLine: Baragon. Baragon was a dinosaur who burrowed underground to escape the post Cretaceous changes. Awakened after millions of years due to oil drilling, he seemed to have been killed in a battle with the mutated version of Frankenstein's monster (the original monster's heart having been exposed to radiation by the Hiroshima blast). But later Baragon turned up as an inmate of Monster Island in Destroy All Monsters. He was responsible for the destruction of Paris in Destroy All Monsters leveling the Arc de Triumph (although the Gorosaurus suit was used for the actual filming, the Baragon suit had yet to be completed). He later played a small part in the film's climactic battle. In 2002 Baragon returned as one of Japan's "guardian beasts" in Giant Monster All-Out Attack, and was seen as a "flash-back" in the 50th Anniversary film Final Wars.
