He stood tall and straight.  The seriousness of the situation demanded no other posture.  In the middle of the conference room of the Japanese Self Defense Force headquarters in Tokyo, the young cadets listen to Admiral Tachibana intently.
"In 1954, half a century ago, Japan suffered a great disaster…Godzilla.” At the mention of the creature’s name the young cadets look at each other.  “Tokyo became a battlefield,” Tachibana continues.  “At the sacrifice of our fathers, we rid ourselves of the monster. It was the only real battle the self-defense force fought since it was founded in 1954.  Japan has been enjoying peace for a long time, but the peril still remains.  A similar monster raided New York at the end of the last century.  Reports on other monsters continue in various countries.”
In the audience, a young cadet turns towards his friend and whispers.  “That was Godzilla, right?”
“They say so in America,” the young recruit replies, “but not in Japan.”
The briefing is interrupted by the arrival of a memo for the Admiral. Reading it, he turns back towards his student.  “Anchors away. That’s all.” He quickly leaves the room.

In the news room of the Tokyo Broadcasting Company the managing editor enters with a startling announcement.  “A U.S. nuclear sub is missing!  Prepare for a special bulletin!  Hurry!!”
On the news floor, the anchor calmly reads the special report.  “To find the nuclear sub that lost contact off Guam, the Japanese government decided to dispatch a search party.”
On the streets of Tokyo, the news is broadcast to a spell bound public.  “The sub has a nuclear reactor.  The anti-radioactive sub Satsuma will be used.  A cruiser carrying Satsuma will leave Yokusu today for the joint salvation operation.
On the streets, watching the special report, Yuri Tachibana, daughter of Admiral Tachibana heads off to work with concern.

Deep near the ocean bottom, several miles from the Japanese shore, the Deep Sea Sub Satsuma and it’s sister sub Satsuma II, search for the American sub.  In the control chamber, the crew watches the monitor as the hull of the American ship comes into view. “We’re nearing the target,” the pilot reports.
The sub’s searchlights cast an eerie glow over the twisted and torn hulk.  Very quickly, the cause of the sinking is found; the front of the sub has been completely torn off.
“Looks like an explosion. An accident,” the pilot reports.
Suddenly a strong current hits the two subs, as silt from the ocean’s bottom is churned up, covering the American wreak.  The two subs fight against the strong current, but the Satsuma II is unable to regain control, and slams into the ocean’s floor, exploding!  As the Satsuma regains its trim, the pilot cannot believe what he sees on the monitor.  Over the radio command tries to contact the sub. “What’s the damage?”
“That moving object!  I can’t believe my eyes!!” is all the pilot can report.  Sliding across the ocean’s bottom is a set of giant dorsal fins, heading for Japan.

The quiet country that is Nigita is a beautiful and serene place.  In a forest clearing, near a small lake, a camera crew is filming.
“The foot of Mt. Makoto is called a Gate to the Lost World.”  The young commentator, Yuri, daughter of Admiral Tachibana, calmly reports.  “Today, we’re going to solve the mystery of this legendary monster.”  On that cue the production assistant throws a stone into the lake.  Acting startled, both Yuri and her cameraman, turn towards the water.  “What’s that?!”
“OK guys, stop it!”  Out from the forest, followed by his assistant, the Village Master treads onto the scene.  “No more shooting!”
Yuri’s producer quickly steps in to confront the politician.  “But Village Master, you said we could.”
The Village master however will not be put off.  “You didn’t say it’s bull shit, you said it’s a documentary.”
“It’s a report,” the producer corrects him.
“All lies!
“Your BS Digital Q makes only cheap programs about ESP and aliens,” chimes in his assistant.
“Our village is attractive because the villagers are honest,” adds the Village Master.  “Go home!”
Watching this exchange, Yuri feels she can no longer stay silent.  “Village Master, children like mystery and monsters.  In America witches were popular.  They made some villagers famous.  Godzilla can too!  It might come here!  It’ll bring many tourists!”
The Village Master does not know how to respond.  The idea of tourist visiting his village would mean a better life for his people, not to mention many riches for himself.  But before he can comment an earthquake disrupts the forest clearing.  As the ground trembles a low roar is heard over the countryside.  “What’s that?” the nervous assistant of the Village Master asks.  But before anyone can provide an answer, the shaking ground suddenly comes to a stand still.
“I’m sorry about that,” the Village Master says. “That was tremendous!”
Smiling, in part to be polite, and in part because none of her crew were hurt during the quake, Yuri asks the Village Master if they may continue.
“Go ahead,” he responses with a broad smile.  “Publicity will attract tourists.”  Suddenly the Village Master, his personal assistant and the film crew are friends again.   “Our village will be famous.”
As the team prepares to begin shooting again, Yuri notices the long figure of an elderly gentleman standing within the line of trees watching then.  She finds something disturbing about the figure, and for a quick moment she feels she must turn away.  However when she turns back a moment later, the figure is gone.

That night, sitting together in his car, the Village Master brags about the fame his village is about to receive.  “Our village will be famous.  They even interviewed me!”
His companion however, is not interested in the fame of the village.  “You’re so handsome, Village Master!” The two laugh and grasp hands.
Suddenly their serene moment is ruined by the arrival of a gang of youths no motorbikes.  They honk their horns and begin to drive around the Village Master’s auto, which is the only one in the parking lot.  Yelling and shouting, the gang continue to harass the couple, stomping on the hood and slamming their hands into the windows.  Quickly growing tired of their “fun,” their leader calls for his to go.  As they leave, one of the gang swings a stick, throwing it at a small statue sitting at the edge of where the car park meets the forest.  The stick hits the ancient statue, breaking it in half.  As the top half of the statue rolls down the hillside the Village Master can not believe his eyes.
“They wrecked it!!”
On the road heading out of Nigita a lone 18 wheeler makes it way down the quiet highway.  Suddenly the motorcycle gang, who rides and zigzags around the massive vehicle, surrounds the truck.  The driver of the truck tries desperately to keep from hitting of the gang, having to swerve and break to avoid collision.  “Goddamm kids! Watch where you’re going!”
Eventually the gang passes the truck, and heads into the tunnel that leads through Mount Makoto.  Suddenly the ground begins to shake as another earthquake hits the area.  The motorcycle gang members, now inside the tunnel, are thrown off their bikes.  As the truck approaches the entrance to the tunnel, the driver is horrified to see the roof collapse onto the gang.  He is even more shocked when he sees the shape of a giant creature plowing through the rubble of the tunnel.

In the offices of BS Digital Q, Yuri is desperately trying to convince her boss that there is more to the Niigita earthquake story.  “There was an earthquake last night.  A big one!  But it wasn’t recorded!”
“It was far away,” Managing Director Haruki Kadokura comments, pointing at the computer screen sitting on his desk.
“But the epicenter moved,” Yuri adds.
“What? How can that be?!”  Although he looks unconventional, with his long shoulder length hair and his constant chain smoking, Yuri’s managing director was a straightforward producer of sensational stories, and not interested in real ones.
“There was this old man…and I heard an eerie voice.  Let me check on it.  I have a hunch.”
“Yuri, our job is to make cheap fictional shows.”
“We can make a real documentary!  A program like this will finally give us the recognition we deserve!” She pleads with Kadokura, but to no avail.
Playing with his long hair he dismisses his reporter’s argument.  “We have to make good shows to survive the TV war.  They expect us to make good, low-budget shows.  No real things!”

Flying over the remains of the Mount Makoto tunnel, an army helicopter reports on the damage to its command post.  “We’re above the tunnel, south of Mt. Makoto.  Twenty men were buried alive.  No traffic.  The rescue operation continues.  Tons of rocks block the entrance.  We can’t get a look inside.”
On the ground, army personal try desperately to cut through the rubble and enter the tunnel.  On the road leading to the entrance, a mobile rocket launcher is slowly directed into position.  As it’s turned to the right angle military personal unload a large crate with the words “Explosive” attached to its side.  The weapon inside looks more like a drill head than a high explosive device, but special personal handling the missile know of the danger.  Clearly marked on the side of the warhead are the words:

NOTICE - The D-03 is designed for detonation only after the boring mechanism has shut down. Do not attempt
to activate before the warhead has been properly delivered.  Failure to do so may result in faulty detonation.

Loaded onto the front end of a missile, the D-03 is fired at the collapsed section of the tunnel.  “Will it explode from inside?  Can the tunnel stand it?” a nervous police chief asks.
“It’s under control,” responds the officer in charge.
Siting in the back of a van, still in shock, the truck diver from the night before is retelling his story.  “It had a big face!  Mouth, eyes, ears, everything!”
“A living creature?” asks his interrogator.
The man looks around wildly, the events of the night before forever etched in his mind.  “It was….Godzilla!” the man shouts.  “Godzilla!!”

Later that night at a local restaurant, with fine cuts of beef cooking on the hibachi, Yuri is having dinner with her Assistant Director, Aki Maruo.  She is upset that her story was killed, and drinking is the only way she believes she can forget about it.  “I regret I was born a girl.”
“Why?” Maruo ask her.  “You’re pretty.”
“I want to write a shocking report!!” she shouts, disturbing the other people sitting around the large table.  Her friend apologizes for her, giving Yuri a disapproving look.
Yuri returns her friends look with a condescending smile  “Don’t say ‘Girls can’t do it.’  No excuses, please.”
A tall young man dressed in a business suit calling out Yuri’s name from across the room interrupts their meal.  She waves to him and he strides over to their table.  “Good.  You got my message?”
The young man nods to her.  “Nobody believes that an epicenter moves!  But….”  Reaching under his coat he hands Yuri a very old book.  It is wrapped in plastic to protect its covering.  Taking the book out of the plastic Yuri reads the title out loud.  “Legend of Guardian Monsters.”
As she begins to flip through the pages of the volume the new comer explains.  “This is a clue to the incident.  There is an interesting report.”
Printed on the pages along site the ancient text are illustrations of three giant monsters.  A four legged creature with a horn on it’s brow, a giant butterfly, and a three-headed dragon. Yuri examines the book with great interest.

Meanwhile, at Lake Ikeda, a beach party has gotten out of hand.  Running out of alcohol, the partygoers break into a local grocery store, and begin to ransack the selves for whatever they can get.  Grabbing handfuls of chips and beer, the storeowner's dog, sits outside barking at the unwelcome intruders.  Quickly, the barking gets on the vandals nerves.  “Noisy mutt!”
At the waters edge sits a statue, very similar to the one destroyed by the biker gang at Niigita.  Suddenly a foot knocks the statue off it’s base, and two set of hands pick up the fallen idol.  “This will do,” says the ringleader.
“Why the dog?” his friend asks.
“I hate dogs!”
Un-noticed by either of them, the old man from the forest in Nigita is watching the scene.   Back on the beach the partygoers have the dog secured in a large wooden box.  Placing the stone idol into the box with the dog, his friends watch and laugh as the ringleader places the top onto the box.  Then walking over to a pair of rowboats, he and a few of his friends head out onto the lake.  As they row out towards the center of the lake the poor dog yelps as if begging for someone to help.  His cries go unanswered.
Suddenly, as the teens approach the middle of the lake, something from beneath the surface crashes into the boats, capsizing them and throwing the occupants into the water.
“What are you doing!?” the ringleader shouts, his head just floating above the water level.  Then without warning he is pulled under.  One by one, each of the teens are pulled under the surface by some unseen force.  Only the dog makes it safely to shore.
Back on the beach the remaining partygoers look on at the scene on the water and laugh.  “They fell overboard!” one of the party shouts.
“No joking?” the others laugh.
But soon they realize that this was no laugh matter, as from the middle of the lake a huge waterspout begins to rise up from where their friends were.
“What’s that!?” are the last words any of them can mutter, as a giant form in the shape of a caterpillar rises from the water.

Late that same night, in a Tokyo apartment building, her friend, the man who brought her the book, helps a very drunk Yuri up the stairs.  As they near her apartment the door opens, and Admiral Tachibana greets them.  Not knowing how the general will take seeing his drunken daughter in the arms of a strange man, the young man quickly explains the situation.
“I’ve brought Yuri home.”
“Thank you.” Tachibana replies, bowing.
At that moment Yuri wakes up, seeing her father standing in the doorway and giving him a mock salute, she says, “Dad! I didn’t expect you! Your daughter Yuri is back!”
“Don’t try to be funny!”  Embarrassed more than angry, he turns to his daughter’s benefactor.  “She troubled you.  I apologize.”
The young man manages a reassuring smile and bows.  “Goodbye.”
“Be careful!” Yuri yells back toward him as he walks down the hall.
Holding her up by the arm – helps his daughter into the apartment.  “You’re drunk!”
“No, sir,” she whispers, and falls towards the floor, her father having to now drag her the rest of the way.
“Drink water and take a bath!”

The next morning Yuri is nursing a hangover.  As she works on some dishes in the sink, her father sits at the table preparing the meal.  “How’s work?”
“Fine,” Yuri answers, but her father knows that there is something bothering his daughter.  He tries to reassure her.
“Everything will go all right.”
But Yuri is only half listening.  “Nothing. I work with nice people.”
“Their programs are garbage!” her father chimes in, trying to make light of the situation.
“Ignore them!”
Seeing that his daughter did not wish to discuss work, Tachibana quickly changed the subject.  “That young man. Mister...?”
“Takeda?”
“Boyfriend?”
“An advisor. He helps me with my report.”
“I should’ve treated him as your boyfriend.”
Yuri smiles as she begins to serve the meal.  “He isn’t. Besides, the situation is bad.”
“Sorry.”
“That’s all right.”
Grabbing for the remote control, Yuri turns on the morning news.  “11 young people went missing at Lake Ikeda yesterday,” the newswomen on the screen reports from the lakeshore.  “Their bodies were cocooned.  The group was on a bike trip from Tokyo.  Besides Lake Ikeda…”
A chill runs down Yuri’s spine. “Lake Ikeda?”
“Southern Kyushu,” her father says.  “Takamori Saigo went there after he surrendered office.  It was more than 100 years ago.”
“Not a coincidence,” Yuri adds.

At the Ministry of Defense in Tokyo, a room full of military advisors watch in stunned silence the footage the Satsuma took at the American sub wreck sight.  The image of the huge dorsal fins sends a chill down everyone’s spine.  “Did you see it with your own eyes?”  The question comes from Admiral Tachibana, and is directed towards the pilot of the Satsuma, Major Tokihiko Kobayakawa.
“Yes.”
“What was that?” Tachibana asks.
“The fin of a huge creature,” the pilot responds.
The room fills with quite whispers as each member of the team takes in what this could mean.
Finally, the Satsuma’s co-pilot, Captain Kumi Emori, speaks up.  “Godzilla fed on the sub’s nuclear energy.”
General Mikumo, sitting at the far end of the table is not sure.  “But who can prove if it’s Godzilla?”
From across the table a second general speaks up.  “Even if it was, it raided Japan half a century ago.  Why should it come back?”
Tachibana answers the question.  “Why did it choose Japan?  Nobody knows the answer. You can’t say it won’t come.”
“What does it have against Japan?” General Mikumo asks.
The joke causes a round of light laughter, which eases the mounting tension in the room.  But Minister of Defense breaks in on the moment of levity.  “If we spent too much on defense, we’ll be blamed for wasting money.”
“If it would raid us again,” the second general comments, “we have advanced weapons now.  Far more powerful than before!”

Following up on a lead connected to the incidents at Mount Makoto and Lake Ikeda, Yuri, her Assistant Director Maruo and Mr. Takeda find themselves at the Motosuo Police Station.  As they are lead up the stairs to the holding cells by an officer, they are told about the strange prisoner they have come to question.
“Yes, he’s popular around here.  He lives in the forest and he’s always telling people Godzilla is coming.”
As he unlocks the door to the interview room, Yuri quickly recognizes the man she had seen in the Nigita forest.  “It’s him.”
“You know him?” Maruo asks.
“From Mount Makoto.”
“Mount Makoto in Nigita?” he remarks.
Yuri shakes her head.  “Must be mistaken.”
“He destroyed an old shrine and got caught,” the officer tells them.  “Did you see our homepage?”
“Yes,” answers Maruo.  “That’s how we got the news.”
Opening her handbag to reveal a hidden camera, Yuri sits down in the chair opposite the old man.  Reaching out, the old man places his hand on the thick glass that separates him from his visitors.  The day is coming,” he tells her.  “There’s not much time left.  Go where Ghidorah sleeps.”
Placing her hand opposite his on the glass Yuri stairs into the old man’s face.  “Ghidorah?”
“Wake the one thousand year dragon to…” the old man stops for a moment.  “Maybe they’re no match for Godzilla.”

Deep in the recesses of the Motosuo forest, Yuri is using a small digital camera to record the damage that the old man had done to the shrine.  Looking around, Takeda begins quoting from the book he had given Yuri the night before.
“In old Japan there were monsters.  Baragon…Mothra….Ghidorah.  The men who killed them said that they were known only as the ‘sacred beasts.’  They worshipped the souls that were asleep for ten thousand years.  Each of the Japanese prayed for the beast they killed.”
As Takeda recounts the tail, Yuri finds a strange bit of statue on the ground.  “Does Ghidorah live here?” she asks.
Takeda looks around at the shrine.  “Well, after thousands of  years they aren’t awake yet.”  Takeda  continues his story.  “Ghidorah grows slowly.  When full grown he gets strong.”
His story is interrupted by Maruo, now holding the video camera and looking at the bit of statue in Yuri’s hand..  “What’s that?”
“That old man put it here.”
“How do you know?” Takeda asks walking over to her to examine the piece.
“Just a hunch.  I feel it.”
Maruo holds up his hand “He made a gestured in the cell.”
“He meant this stone,” Yuri adds.  “I’m confused.”
Suddenly Maruo notices something in the woods.  He rushes away from the pair and begins looking through the camera.  “What?  Gone.”
Yuri and Takeda look at each other and rush over to their companion.
“That part. It’s gone.”  Pointing in the direction of a dense clump of trees, he rewinds the video to play back the footage he had taken just moments before.  On the screen the trees can be clearly seen glowing in the sunshine.  In front of them, three tall totems sit jutting out of the earth making a rough “\ \ /” formation.  Now, in the same spot, with dense fog covering the land, the three totems were gone.

On a small island off the cost of Japan, the local village is being pelted with rain.  Inside the recreation room of the local hostel, a group of vacationers wallow the time away playing Ping-Pong, and watching the latest weather report on the local news.  “A big typhoon is moving north,” the T.V. reporter announces.  “The storm is raging off the Bonins.  The rain and wind will grow worse…”
Watching the rain through the large windows, one of the vacationers, a pretty young teenage girl, turns to her friends with disappointment.  “We can’t dive tomorrow.”
Tired of watching his other two friends play Ping-Pong, the young teenage boy turns to look at a series of photographs hanging on the wall behind him.  They show what seems to be a scientific expedition to a wrecked village.  An older gentleman is bending over the ground holding what appears to be a Geiger counter.  The youth had recognized such devices from old sci/fi films.  Behind the man stood another gentlemen in a white coat, and next to them was what, to the teen, was a very attractive young women.  “What’s this?”
His friend moved away from the windows to look at the photos.  “The old lady of the house said the island where Godzilla landed fifty years ago is nearby.”
Interested in their friend’s story, the two who had been playing Ping-Pong now turned their attention towards the pictures.
“Didn’t the defense army kill it?”
“It wasn’t it’s fault,” the young girl replies.  “Poor, innocent beast.”
“Why not make a pet of it?” their forth friend teased.
Suddenly the entire building is shaken by a most violent crash.  Over and over again the building shakes.  Each time the vibrations get stronger and stronger.  Soon the visiting teens are huddled together as plaster and wooden beams come crashing down around them.  “This isn’t no earthquake!!”
In the restroom, a disheveled guest pulls open the window to try and see what is causing the disruption.  He has only enough time to scream as Godzilla’s foot comes crushing down on the building.

“Artillery shells can’t kill it.  The prehistoric dinosaur has survived millions of years.  Even A-bombs gave it extraordinary survival. So far, it’s an animal.  It’s fatal.  But, no weapons can kill it.  Because it’s a compound of many people’s will to survive.”
Back at her office, Yuri and Maruo go through the footage of the old man recorded in the Motosuo Police Station.
“The souls of countless people who fell victim to the Pacific War congregated in Godzilla’s body.”
Watching the interview from the entrance of her cubical is Kadokura, the Managing Director.  “Yuri, do you believe this old geezer?”
“It’s not his imagination.  He wrote the facts in this book.”
The Managing Director was not convinced.  “One of my wife’s relatives claims Godzilla hit him.”
“I’m not interested.”
Not to be put off, Kadokura continues his jabs.  “Godzilla is passé….But continue on with your investigation.”
On the tape, the old man continued.  “Why destroy Japan?  Because people have forgotten!  Forgotten the agony of those killed in the war!  Forgotten their cries!!”

Later that night, in the study of Mr. Takeda’s house, Yuri continued her research.  “The earth remembers the stones as well.  ‘Could they speak, they’d tell many things,’ so American Indians said.”
Leaning back in his chair behind his desk, Takeda  considers the ancient story.  “Stones might be ancient CD’s.  As sure as granite can be charged, there may be a way to store information in a stone.”
Yuri considers this.  “Spirits are made of electricity.  I wonder if the stone contains the power?”  Suddenly a though crossed her mind.  “Could he do it?  Could he release the source from the stone and put them in the guardian monster?”
“What for?”
“To guard Japan from Godzilla?”

In the middle of Motosuo Forest, not far from the shrine Yuri, Maruo and Takeda had visited just days before, a pair of hands pulls over a small ancient statue off its base.  Standing on it, the young Japanese businessman, tired of the riggers of his everyday life, prepares to end it once and for all.  Throwing the remains of his tie over a low hanging tree branch, he pulls on both ends to insure that it will carry his weight.  Suddenly, the ground beneath his feet collapses, and he finds himself tumbling over and over into the middle of a large cavern.
Picking himself up, he notices that the walls and the floor of the cavern are somehow transparent.  To his horror, he notices what appears to be the gigantic face of a dragon staring at him from beneath the floor.  Spinning around he finds himself face to face with another aspersion, staring at him from behind the wall.  Screaming, he turns to leave, only to be confronted by yet another face.  As he claws his way out of the cavern, he thinks to himself how his personal problems seem unimportant at a time like this.

At a press conference, the Japanese government announces the most recent developments to a stunned world.  “From the analysis of the reports from the army, we concluded that the monster which destroyed the sub and the island was possibly Godzilla.  The government issued a warning to watch the seas around Japan.”

In the emergency ward of a Tokyo hospital, the survivors from the island, wrapped in radiation suits to protect the doctors and surgeons from contamination, are rushed into treatment. “Godzilla’s coming!” one of the survivors yells.  “It’s going to kill us all!!”

On the phone in her office, an angry Yuri confronts her father.  “Why didn’t you tell me, father?”   In the background, her fellow reporters watch the news conference.
“Tell you what?” From behind the desk in his office, Tachibana tries to claim his daughter.
Yuri was in no mood to play games with her father.  “About Godzilla!” Yuri cries,  “You know I’m a reporter!”
“Do me proud.” Is all the Admiral can reply.  “Don’t depend only on me.”
Yuri thinks for a moment, then decides to tell her father what she has discovered.  “In that case, I have some important information!”

Out in the Pacific, off the cost of the Bonin Islands, the Battle Cruiser Aizu, patrols the sea.  On the bridge, the Captain keeps a keen eye out over the peacefulness of the ocean.  Turning towards his Lieutenant, he receives an updated report. “Reports from the Akosse area clear.  It’s been 3 days.  No sign of Godzilla.  Some deny the existence of Godzilla.”
The Captain nods his head.  Although he too believes that the chances of Godzilla returning are slim, he also understood the dangers that could be involved for his homeland.  The Aizu patrolled on.

At his office in the Ministry of Defense, Tachibana looks through the book Takeda had presented his daughter, as Takeda explains his theories.  “Mothra, Baragon and Ghidorah are our guardian gods.”
“Why should gods attack us?” Tachibana ask.
“They guard our country.”
“The meaning of homeland, not nation.” Yuri adds.
“The mountain triggers nature itself.” Takeda continues.
Tachibana  looks at his daughter with skepticism.  “Do you believe that?”
“The old man’s story’s believable!  It can’t be denied!”
Tachibana  is not convinced.  “Japanese soldiers fought and died for our country.  Why do they want to destroy Japan?”
“Both Asian and American people died too,” Yuri explains.  “The spirits joined the Japanese.”
Tachibana still cannot believe the story.  He is convinced that there was more at work here.
There is a knock at the door and Tachibana underling enters and bows.  “I’m back from the Bonins.” With a polite nod to Tachibana’s daughter he continues his report.  “The destruction was total.”
“The government decided to end our search,” Tachibana cuts in.
“New countermeasures?” his underling asks.
“We’ll keep watching, but the ministry doubts Godzilla’s existence,” the Admiral informs him.  Then, turning towards the window, Tachibana becomes lost in thought.  “The long lasting peace diminished the total events of my life.  But I vividly remember….Godzilla.”  As the Admiral slowly walks back towards his desk, his mind turns to that fateful night in 1954, almost 50 years before.  “50 years ago. The sky was blood red.  Buildings and railroads trampled.  A huge dark figure slowly advancing through the flames.  It’s face looked like a devil, furious with hate! I ran and ran among the crowd, helplessly seeking refuge!  When the terror ended, my parents were gone.  Gone forever.  I’ve never forgotten the wretched cries of the dying.”

At the Nagano weather station the instruments are going wild.  A new epicenter had been found, and it appeared to be moving south.  At the Ministry of Defense command center, the Self Defense Force is put on alert.  Meanwhile Yuri and her cameraman are enjoying a quite lunch.
“I recorded father’s story.” Yuri informs her partner.  “I was moved to tears.”
“It was very moving and emotional.  Don’t sell it.”
Yuri smiles in surprise.  “You think I’m that girl who resists her father?”
“You can’t make him believe about the sacred beasts,” he tells her.
But Yuri will not be discouraged.  “You underestimate a reporter.”
Her attention is drawn to the news report playing on the television mounted on the wall.  “Here’s more information about the earthquake in Nagano,” the news reporter states.  “The epicenter is moving.  It’s started at Nigita and moved south to Shizhouka.”
Yuri is shocked by the story.  “The sacred beasts.”

Back at the Ministry of Defense command center, Tachibana and his team are assessing the situation.  “Nigita Forest, Lake Ikeda, and Fuji Forest.  It would seem that another giant monster, different from Godzilla, is moving underground.” Captain Emori places the reports in front of her commanding officer.
“Unbelievable,” Tachibana replies.
“The data proves it’s a living being,” she continues.
“It’s unbelievable because the location exactly accords with a legend,” Tachibana states.

Inside the Motosuo Police Station, the young Japanese businessman is desperately trying to convince the police detective of the creature he had seen.  “The monster was sleeping underground.  It had a horrible face!  It’ll wake up at any moment now!”
The detective of course, did not believe a word of it.  “Why not write about it on your homepage?”
“It’s true I tell you!”
Suddenly, the peace of the afternoon is disturbed by what the citizens of this community believe can only believe is an earthquake.  But soon it becomes apparent that this is not your typical moving of tectonic plates.  As n officer watches on the street, as a crack appears down the center of the main avenue.  In stunned science the people of Motosuo watch as the ground buckles up, and out of the pit, which had been created, emerges Baragon!
The creature makes it way toward the Police Station, and rearing up on it hind legs, rips a section of the wall off the structure.  Sitting in his cell, the old man from the Nigita Forest stares the giant creature in the eye.

Driving down the highway, Yuri receives the news of Baragon’s appearance on her PDA: GIANT MONSTER IS OUT.  “It’s out!” she cries.
“Out?! The sacred beast?” Takeda carefully leans over to view the report while keeping one eye on the road.
“It looks like Godzilla!” Yuri reads.

Baragon makes his way through the dense trees that make up Fuji Forest.  Trees fall under the weight of the massive creature as birds and all other forms of wild life scramble to get out of the creatures way.  Overhead an army helicopter monitors the creature’s advance.  “The monster is 30 meters long!  Red skin, on all fours, moving through Gotebna, near Mt. Fuji!”

Back in the conference room at the Ministry of Defense an emergency meeting of both civilian and military personal is called.
“A red monster, not Godzilla?”
“We are receiving mixed reports,” responds one of the generals.  “It’s different from Godzilla.”
“Send our fighters from the coast,” General Mikumo orders.
As Tachibana  and his assistants enter the room the Admiral ask the obvious question.  “Anti-Godzilla Plan?”
General Mikumo gives him a steady glare.  “Just do it.”

Out in the middle of Shizhouka Yaizu Harbor, a small fishing boat returns from a day at sea.  In the small cabin the two-man crew listens intently to the news on the radio.
“We’re reaching port.  What’s the latest on Godzilla” ask the elder man.
“Godzilla’s moving,” replies the younger man.  “They say that he’s red.”.
“Stupid!” the older one answers back.  “Godzilla isn’t red!”
Suddenly the small ship is rocked from side to side.  The two seamen are thrown to the floor as the radio smashes against the deck.  “What the hell!” yells the older of the two.
On the docks, an unexpected sight disturbs the afternoon fishing.
“Look at that!!!”
In the middle of the harbor, the water swells to titanic heights, as Godzilla emerges from the ocean bottom.  The small fishing ship, caught on top of the creature as he emerged from the sea, comes crashing down to the surface of the water.  Godzilla looks around as the people on the docks flee in terror.  As Godzilla moves ashore nothing stands in the way this atomic terror. Smashing through buildings as if they were cardboard, the gigantic beast plows into the heart of the Shinbaizu.  People flee in droves as Godzilla nears the center of the city.

In the conference room at the Ministry of Defense, the situation is both desperate and confused.  “Godzilla at Yaizu!” one soldier reports.
“What’s at Gohka?” ask another.  Confused over the earlier ‘Godzilla’ sighting,
“Which is which?” the Minister demands.  “Unify the observations!”
“They searched everywhere,” Tachibana says to himself, “but we couldn’t find it.”
Finally General Mikumo issues the command.  “Armored troops stand by!”
One of the soldiers rushes in with a report.  “Godzilla has invaded Shinbaizu and making its way north.”
Right behind him another soldier rushes in. “Fighters and bombs are ready!”
“Time is short.” Tachibana knows that if they are going to stop Godzilla the time to act is now.”
“The ministries are meeting.” Is the only answer the Minister can give.

“Godzilla is coming! Evacuate immediately!!”  The terror stricken citizens try desperately to get out of the creatures way.  Godzilla has left a wake of destruction behind him, and before him lay the rest of the undefended city.  Then, without any warning, the giant creature stops.  All is silent for a moment as Godzilla notices the hundreds of small creatures scrambling around at his feet.  Slowly, the dorsal fins on his back begin to glow.
Many miles away in the quiet setting of and elementary classroom, the students are preparing to evacuate the building.  Their attention is drawn to a large flash emanating from the center of the city.  Suddenly the entire classroom shakes, and the children watch in horror as a mushroom cloud rises over what had once been the downtown area.

On the road heading into Shinbaizu, Yuri and Takeda race to the scene of destruction.  “Yuri.” Takeda says.  “You’re not afraid?”
“I want to see it!”
“The guardian monsters might attack us,” Takeda comments.  But she does not answer him.  Knowing that she will not be dissuaded, Takeda changes the subject.  “What about the stone?”
“Its in my bag.  I think it’s an amulet.” Her attention is drawn to a news helicopter that flies overhead.  On the small television mounted into the dashboard the reports on Godzilla continue.
“Godzilla is heading for Hakone Spa resort area.  The ministries are meeting to determine further measures.”
“Chase the chopper!” Yuri yells.
“We’re in a car!”
“Godzilla’s there!  It has finally come!”

“I got it!”  The Lieutenant watching the radarscope at the command center reports his findings.
“What’s up?”
“The new monster’s goal!”  He points toward the screen.  “It’s headed for Godzilla! It’s in Hakone.”
As the two watch the radarscope, Baragon smashes his way through the Hakone countryside. Alerted by this news, Tachibana, the Secretary and several generals enter the command center.  Assessing the situation Tachibana makes a dire prediction.  “It’ll reach Tokyo tomorrow.”
“We can stop it with artillery at the Sagamo River.” One of the generals states.
“It’s definitely coming to Tokyo?” ask another.
“It’s destination is Tokyo,” Tachibana states, “just like the last time.”
“Why Tokyo again?” asks the Secretary.
“Baragon is at Hakone,” reports the young Lieutenant.
“Are the tourists evacuating?” ask Tachibana’s assistant.
The down-turned look on the Lieutenant’s face gives everyone the answer.

In the sun-drenched parks of the Owakawa Valley, holidaymakers are enjoying the day, unaware of the danger that is approaching them.  As people make their way pass the hot springs, the mood is suddenly broken by the approach of Baragon.  The four-legged creature cuts a path through the forest like a bulldozer making way for a new highway.  On the hillside, young couples are enjoying the scenery.
“Hey! Look!” calls the wife.  “It’s a real monster!”  In the distance Baragon makes his way toward the frightened and excited couple.  “It’s frightening, but it’s cute!”
“Take a picture before we run!” her husband tells her.
With excited joy the young woman moves to the railing, turning her back on the advancing monster.  As her husband clicks away his wife’s attention is drawn to the mountaintop before her.  Noticing the look of terror on her face he turns to see what could have caused the change in his wife’s demeanor.  Peering over the hilltop, Godzilla has reached Hakone.
With a mighty roar the King of the Monsters smashes his way through the hillside, burying the frightened onlookers below.  In the countryside, Baragon notices Godzilla and lets out a hearty roar.  As the two creatures prepare to do battle, military and news choppers cover the scene.  The two creatures tear into each other as Godzilla slams Baragon to the ground.  All around frightened and panicking holiday goers run for their lives.  Baragon begins to burrow underground, causing the ground under Godzilla to give way.  The King of the Monsters goes down as the ground beneath him crumbles into nothing.  Baragon emerges from the side of the mountain, towering over Godzilla.  But the King of the Monsters is quick to recover, tossing Baragon to the ground.
In the distance, Yuri and Takeda arrive on the scene.  “That’s Godzilla!” Yuri exclaims.  “It’s enormous!”
“Our guardian monster!” Takeda states.
“It has no chance!” Yuri finishes his thought for him.
From the news helicopter the battle between the two titans is receiving a play by play.  “Godzilla kicks the red monster!  It never stops assaulting!” states the reporter.
“We can’t shoot anymore!” warns a nervous cameraman.
“Idiot! Don’t sympathize with monsters! Just do your job!” the reporter yells.  “Go right above Godzilla!”
As the helicopter moves closer to the battle, Godzilla picks up Baragon and throws him into a mass of screaming people.
“It kicks at its enemy!  The red monster is down!” the reporter shouts.
Baragon tries desperately to climb up the cliff face, Godzilla bashing it constantly with it’s tail.  Finally it reaches the hill top, and turning towards Godzilla leaps at the radioactive menace.  But Godzilla uses his tail as a giant baseball bat, swinging and coming in contact with Baragon in mid air.  The Guardian Beast is propelled through the air, hitting the news helicopter before crashing into the ground.
From their vantage point Yuri and Takeda watch in stunned silences,  “Dead,” Yuri whispers.  “The men in the chopper.  All dead.”  With a sudden look of determination she rushes towards the two battling beats.  With a frightened look Takeda rushes after her.  “Yuri!!”
Baragon has recovered from his fall, and once again makes his way toward Godzilla.  On the road overlooking the battlefield, Yuri takes up position.  Pulling out her video camera she begins to videotape Baragon, as Godzilla begins to close in.  Baragon tries to climb the cliff face, hopping to get a vantage point over Godzilla.  But as the King of the Monster approaches, his dorsal plates slowly begin to glow.  Takeda pulls Yuri into the safety of a nearby building, just as Godzilla unleashes his atomic ray.  The explosion hits Baragon with the force of an atomic blast, knocking the creature to the ground.  Unable to recover, Godzilla continues to hit Baragon with blast after blast.  Finally, no long able to resists, Baragon’s body dissolves, his life force dissipating into the morning air.

Miles away, in the Motosuo forest, the old man stands in the cavern that holds the last of the Guardian Beast.  At his feet, the small statue, which the Japanese businessman had used in his attempt to kill himself, falls over.  Cracks quickly appear in the translucent surface.

The hospitals are over flowing with the wounded and the dying, as both civilian and military personal try to cope with the overwhelming casualties.  On the news, reports of the destruction are just coming through.  “Godzilla landed in Yaizu and destroyed Shimazu and Fuji.  At present it’s around Hakone and advancing to the east.  Evacuate the area without using your cars.  Water might be contaminated.”
Into the middle of this suffering, still clutching her camera, Yuri, her head bandaged, finds a small boy sitting on the floor watching the reports from the television. “Your parents?”
The boy does not answer, but continues to look at the screen.  Then, without look toward her he asks, “Are we all going to die?”
“Don’t worry,” Yuri reassures him, “people are fighting back.  The guardian monsters too.”
With that the boy turns toward her, and notices the emblem on the side of her camera.  “The Digital Q mark!”
“You watch it?”
The boy nods.  “Have you seen the monster?
Yuri smiles, “A guardian monster is fighting Godzilla.  You’ll be safe.  Believe me!”

Outside the hospital Takeda is waiting for his friend.  He is worried when he sees Yuri with her head bandaged.
“It’s just scratches,” she reassures him.  Then she holds out her hand.  “The car keys.”
“No.  It’s not your job now!”

Out in the middle of Lake Ikeda, a huge cocoon floats lazily on the waters surface.  On the shores, people gather to observe the strange sight.  Some cry, some pray.  One, a local newswomen, reports on the event.  “There’s a huge cocoon in Lake Ikeda. The residents and tourists are gathering. A huge mysterious creature, like Nessie, was seen here before.”

Back at the Self Defense Force command center Mikumo is receiving orders from the Minister of Defense.  “General Mikumo, you’re in charge of the counterattack.”
Mikumo  bows, “I understand, Minister.”
“This will be a command post.,” the Minister states.
Turning toward his troops Mikumo  begins issuing orders.  “Dispatch the air squadron!”
“Roger!”
“Turn it to ashes quickly!”

On the streets of Tokyo the evacuation is proceeding calmly.  Police and military personal move the steady stream of people and autos down the crowded streets.  In the middle of this mess Yuri, riding a bicycle heads in the opposite direction.  Her camera, and a small transmitter safely tucked away in her backpack.   On the news, a government spokesman is giving a press conference.  “The government has decided to use defense forces to attack Godzilla.  The order is commissioned. The counter operation has started.”

Back at the offices of BS Digital Q the phone rings, and Maruo answers it.  “Hello? Yuri?!  Where are you?”
Out on the streets of Tokyo, Yuri rides toward the location of Godzilla.  “I’ll chase Godzilla with my camera! I’ll send it via my computer!  Whatever tonight’s show is, change it!”
Back in the offer Yuri’s producer is furious.  “She’s going too far again!  Who’ll that the responsibility for this!”
“I will.”  The answer comes from Kadokura.  “Your bullshit can air next week.”  Turning towards his office staff he prepares for the broadcast.  “Set up for five. You’re in on it, too.”  The newsroom burst with energy as the crew begins the preparation for Yuri’s transmission.
“Yuri, give me the real thing!” the Director yells into the phone.
“Be careful!” yells her cameraman.
Knowing that the responsibility is solely hers, Yuri races toward her destiny.

Overhead, the Japanese Air Force closes in on Godzilla.  Missile after missile slam into Godzilla’s back, but they are only a minor annoyance to the great creature.  As the planes turn to make another run, Yuri arrives at the scene with her video camera ready.  From its headquarters in the Tokyo News Building, the broadcast of the century is about to begin.  “B.S. Digital Q, the world’s trash yard, proudly presents Yuri Tachibana’s Ride with Death!”
Another set of missiles flies into Godzilla causing a tremendous explosion.  Fire erupts all around the creature, but Godzilla is unaffected.  Godzilla roars in defiance as the jets prepare to make another run.  Only this time Godzilla is tired of the minor annoyance, and he sends the planes crashing into the ground with his atomic breath.  On the ground, Yuri watches in horror.

In the cavern below Motosuo forest, watched by the mysterious old man, Ghidorah awakens from his long sleep.

Out at Lake Ikeda, a scientific team is approaching the large cocoon, when the top of the casing begins to buckle.
“What’s that?” one of the men points.
“Go back to the shore! Go back! Hurry!” shouts another.
Out from the top of the webbing, under the light of a full moon, Mothra is reborn.  Expanding it’s wings, the graceful butterfly slowly flies off, in the direction of Godzilla.

Back at the Ministry of Defense headquarters Tachibana is confronting the Minister.  “Did we really get rid of Godzilla 50 years ago? I doubt it.  But it taught my men to be proud!  Now, look at that!”
The Minister has no answer for the Admiral, but just then a report comes in.  “Godzilla is moving east!  Going to Tokyo!”
“50 years ago,” the Minister states, “the first Godzilla was killed with an unknown chemical compound.  Nobody knows what it was.  Existing weapons were useless.”  The despair in his voice breaking through with every sentence.  “Even though today’s armor might be more effective, people cried for non-armament if we were to maintain a military force.  The ministry of defense has kept it’s promise for 50 years.  And so will I!”
Tachibana is about to respond, but he holds himself back.  He knows that is not the fault of the Minister for their current situation.
“Sir,” Tachibana’s assistant approaches the Admiral.  “It’s about your daughter.”

Godzilla continues to make his way across the Japanese countryside.  Not far behind, still on her bicycle, Yuri Tachibana continues her report to a captivated world.  “Many innocent people were killed by Godzilla!  They died in flames in an instant!  People are fighting the monster!  So are other monsters!  They’re trying hard to stop the horror.”

Back at the command center Yuri’s father cannot believe his eyes.  He knew that his daughter was head strong, a trait she picked up from him.  But he never dreamed that she would risk her life in an endeavor so dangerous.  “Stupid!”
“Let’s protect her!” Tachibana’s assistant states.
“Arrest her.” Tachibana answers.
Meanwhile another report is coming into the command center.  “There’s an insect at Lake Ikeda.?”
“Again?!” ask General Mikumo.  The events of the past few days were way beyond his military training.  Suddenly another report reaches the General’s ears.  “A new monster has just appeared in Mt. Fuji.”
“What’s going on here, Monsters on Parade!?” The General reacts with frustration.
Tachibana’s assistant moves over to one of the technician.  “The giant insect?”
“Flying eastward,” the tech answers.
“To meet Godzilla?” she asks another technician.
“It’s the right direction,” he answers.
“What will happen?” she asks the Admiral.
Over the monitor, Tachibana hears the voice of his daughter.  “The guardian monsters are challenging Godzilla!  Don’t attack the guardian monsters!  They’re no enemy!”
“Why don’t we property named the monsters so they won’t get mixed up?” ask one of the technicians.
Mikumo reacts with surprise. “You sound like you’re enjoying a game!”
Determined that something has to be done Tachibana  turns toward his commanding general.  “Sir! Let me take command!”

From their vantage point a top the Yokahama Tower, the Yokahama Defense Unit listens intently to reports concerning the invading creatures.  “Several monsters are gathering in the country,” the report over the radio announces.  “We’ll call the red one “Baragon,” the flying insect “Mothra” and the golden one “Ghidorah.”
On the streets, military personal sweep the area to insure that all civilians have been successfully evacuated.  In the command truck of the Yokahama Garrison, command personal also wait for any updates.  “Repeat.  The red one is “Baragon,” the flying insect “Mothra,” the golden one, “Ghidorah.”
Out in the bay, on the Patrol Fleet Headquarters cruiser, Admiral Tachibana arrives with his team.
“Captain’s waiting!”  The sailors salute at the Admiral climbs down from the helicopter.  “It’s our honor to be under your command!”
Tachibana  replies with a short bow.  We will be using the D-03 drill warheads.  Load them on the missiles.”
“Roger!”  With the command given the crew prepares to execute the  orders given. Tachibana, followed by his aid, makes his way to the bridge.  On the bridge, the ship’s captain looks over the shoreline through a pair of field glasses. He turns towards Tachibana.  “It’s a pity to turn this gold harbor town into a bloody battlefield.”
“It’s been our honor to have had no experience of combat.” Tachibana informs him.
The captain is not convinced.  “Do you believe this?”
“This is the ethic of soldiers in these times.”
“Godzilla’s here!”  The attention of the entire bridge crew is drawn to the image of the giant beast as it makes it way into the heart of Yokahama.

The personal of the Yokahama Garrison watch in stunned silence as the King of the Monsters makes its way quietly down one of the wider streets of Yokahama.  Searchlights shine beams of illumination on the titanic form, but Godzilla is little disturbed by these actions.  Standing in the middle of the intersection like a gigantic statue erected to man’s recklessness Godzilla just looks over his surroundings.  His attention is drawn to a faint cry heard off in distance.  Soon the cause of the cry becomes apparent, as slowly flying over the spires of the buildings comes Mothra.  With unparalleled grace, the giant butterfly glides to a rest atop of Yokahama Tower, much to the dismay of the defense units stationed there.  Godzilla watches this arrival, and the two beasts face off at each other from several blocks away.  After a moment Mothra propels herself off of Yokahama Tower and dives at Godzilla.  As she flies tremendous gale-force winds sweep the city streets.  Mothra circles Godzilla, waiting for the moment of attack.
Mothra continues to slowly circle Godzilla, then quickly speeds up and dives on her adversary.  Arching her tail she spews forth hundreds of scales, which impact the King of the Monsters with tremendous force.  Over come by the impacts, Godzilla stumbles and falls into the side of a building, showering debris on the military personal on the streets below.  Mothra continues her attack, and slowly begins to dive on Godzilla again. But the King of the Monsters quickly regains his posture, and slowly the fins on his back begin to glow.  Mothra flies right into the onslaught of Godzilla’s ray.  As she tries to escape Godzilla follows her motion, his ray hitting and destroying building after building after building.
Down on the streets, Yuri continues to broadcast her story.  As Mothra passes overhead she is almost thrown to the ground by the winds produced by the giant butterfly.  Soon however, she is caught in the wake of Godzilla’s destructive force.  As the buildings around her are blown into fragments, Yuri finds herself thrown several feet through the air.  All around her the city has been reduced to burning rubble.  The fact that she has survived is a miracle.
Mothra continues to flee from Godzilla’s attack.  Her flight brings her over the Yokahama Defense Unit’s position in the top of Yokahama Tower.  To the soldier’s horror, Godzilla’s ray, following Mothra, completely obliterates their position.  “Our comrades were in there!” yells one of the soldiers watching from the streets below.  He turns to his commanding officer.  “Orders?”
His commander just shakes his head.  “Not yet!”

From the bridge of the battle cruiser in Yokahama Bay, Tachibana watches in sorrow as the battle unfolds.  Rising from his seat in the corner of the bridge the captain turns to face him.  “Troops are ready for your orders!”
Tachibana just stares at the monitor screen.  “Not yet! Patience!”

In the city, Godzilla and Mothra continue to fight with each other.  Mothra, swinging around the back of Godzilla lands on the giant beasts head, digging her talons into his flesh.  Godzilla reacts wildly, swinging his body back and forth.  From her vantage point within the rubble, Yuri watches in horror.
Suddenly an explosion rips through a section of the city blocks away.  Through the flames and smoke of several collapsed buildings, Ghidorah emerges to join the melee.
“Ghidorah!” one of the soldiers shouts.
“The guardian monsters are joining forces against Godzilla!” Yuri reports.
The three-headed monster quickly makes his way toward the King of the Monsters as Mothra releases her hold of Godzilla’s head.  Grabbing and holding his arms with two of his heads, Ghidorah immediately begins to bite and rip at Godzilla with his center head.  To the horror and amassment of the troops on the ground electrical bolts begin to emanate from Ghidorah’s mouths, running up the arms of Godzilla.  Under the force, the King of the Monsters is slowly driven back.

“Move into the bay!” Tachibana orders.  “We’ll attack from both land and sea!”
“Move into the bay!” the captain orders.
“Good timing.” Major Kobayakawa  comments.
“We’ll join the party.” Tachibana  replies.  “We’ll attack Godzilla while he’s wounded.”  Slowly, the battle cruisers make their way deeper in Yokahama Bay.

Ghidorah continues to unleash charge after charge into Godzilla’s body.  Unable to take the strain, the atomic terror stumbles back and falls into the confines of another building.  Ghidorah begins to move in for the final kill, but Godzilla quickly jumps up and charges the three-headed beast, grabbing one of it’s necks in it’s maul.  Ghidorah tries to bite back, but Godzilla just clamps down harder on the neck, causing blood to begin to run freely.
From behind Mothra slowly moves into position to help her ally.  But Godzilla senses her presence and swats at her with his massive tail.  She is thrown through the air but quickly regains her self and turns to re-attack.  Meanwhile Ghidorah tries to slacken Godzilla’s grip by unleashing another round of electrical bolts.  This only angers Godzilla further, who picks up the three-headed beast and flings him into an office tower.  With his back fins glowing, Godzilla hit Ghidorah again and again with his atomic berate.  Ghidorah collapses under the onslaught.
With Ghidorah down Godzilla slowly makes his way towards his unconscious adversary.  Slowly the fins on his back begin to glow, and Godzilla unleashes his atomic breath once more.  But before it can find it’s mark, Mothra swoops down and intercepts it, shielding Ghidorah from further attack.  The blast knocks Mothra back through a number of buildings, severely wounding her.  Godzilla continues his slow advance forward.  At that moment, both missiles from rocket launchers on the street, as well as ones mounted on the ships, fire at Godzilla.
The missiles cut a glow through the night sky, impacting Godzilla both in the back and in the side.  Delivered, the D-03 drill heads begin boring their way into Godzilla’s skin.  But Godzilla’s hide is too thick, and the warheads explode with very little damage.  Disturbed by this minor annoyance, Godzilla destroys the ground troops with his atomic breath.  Like the explosion of an atomic bomb, both men and machine are thrown through the air, disintegrating in flames.  With the ground troops gone, Godzilla now turns his attention to the ships in the bay.  One after the other Godzilla’s atomic breath  rips through their hulls of each ship as if they were made of paper.
“We’ve taken a hit!” shouts one of the crew on the ship Tachibana is on.  “Our ship’s damaged!”
“Check the damage!” orders the captain.
“Guns destroyed!” comes back the response.
On the shore, Godzilla stands at the water’s edge, watch the reaming ships in the harbor.
“It’s watching us!” the captain yells.
Godzilla slowly begins to wade into the water, the fins on his back glowing.  Rising from the fiery inferno, she wings blazing, Mothra makes her way toward Godzilla.  The King of the Monsters senses her approach.  Turning, he unleashes his atomic breath into Mothra’s mid section at point blank range.  This proves to be too much for the giant butterfly, and Mothra bodies dissolves.

On the street below, Yuri watches as the body of Mothra is completely engulfed in flames.  Although horrified, she continues with her report

The winged avenger is not dead however, as her life force makes its way to the prone body of Ghidorah.  As the energy flows into the three-headed monsters body, the area surrounding Ghidorah begins to glow with a bright light.  Then in an explosion of a bright golden light, King Ghidorah appears.  Larger than before, it’s wings now fully extended, the final Guardian Beast towers over Godzilla.
“1000 year dragon.  King Ghidorah.” Yuri exclaims.
King Ghidorah quickly takes to the air, Godzilla attempting to attack the reborn creature before it can attack him.  But Godzilla’s ray is simply deflected around King Ghidorah’s body.  Ghidorah retaliates by shooting a massive ball of energy at the King of the Monsters.  The energy envelops Godzilla, pushing him back into the bay amidst a hail of fire and debris.  The entire shoreline is in flames, as Godzilla slowly tumbles toward the bottom of the harbor.  Overhead, King Ghidorah circles over the part of the water where Godzilla went down.  As Godzilla resurfaces, the three-headed monster dives at his enemy, pushing him below the surface with it’s talons.  Godzilla counters by grabbing onto Ghidorah’s body, and the two slowly disappears below the surface of the water.

On the bridge of his command ship, Tachibana is looking over the data from their battle with Godzilla.  Suddenly he notices something that may be used to their advantage.  “Godzilla’s wounded.”  At that Kobayakawa comes over.  “I’ll shoot the D-03 into it’s wound.” Tachibana continues.
“You’ll never get a chance!  The launchers are damaged!”
Tachibana thinks for a moment, there must be a way.  Then an idea hits him.  Its crazy, but its the only chance they’ll get.  “Load the missiles onto the Satsuma,” he orders.
“Are you crazy?” asks Kobayakawa.  “The deep sea sub.  It can’t work!”
“Godzilla’s in the sea, “ responds Tachibana .  “It’s now or never!”
Grabbing him by the arm his friend implores him to reconsider.  “Then I’ll go!”
But Tachibana has no intentions to let someone else take the risk.  But a though does cross his mind.  “Torpedoes?”
“Two.”
“Then you’ll cover me!”

At the bottom of the bay the two titanic monsters continue to struggle to the death.  Godzilla continues to law at Ghidorah as the three-headed creature continues to discharge energy bolts into Godzilla’s skin.
At the remains of the command post of the ground forces, Yuri listens to the orders issued with the surviving soldiers.  “We’ll attack Godzilla!  Use the remaining firepower to stop Godzilla!  Admiral Tachibana is off to attack Godzilla with the D-03.  Use the remaining firepower to cover him and distract Godzilla!”
“Father!?” Yuri can hardly believe what she has just heard.
One of the soldiers looks at her.  “We’ll take you to a safe place!”
But Yuri will have not of it.  She grabs at the radio.  “What’s this?  Why my father? He’s an admiral!  A commander!  Why must he do it himself?”
“Me or who else?” The voice of her father gives her a warm feeling, while also sending a cold chill down her spine.
“Father.”
From the command seat inside the Satsuma, Tachibana talks to his daughter for what could possibly be the last time.  “Is it O.K., if somebody else risks his life?  Risking my life is part of my job.  This is a task I must fulfill.”
Yuri can hardly think.  She knows that she will be unable to dissuade her father, yet somehow she feels she must be a part of it.  “Same here. I have a job to do too!”.
Tachibana sighs.  He knows that his daughter is more like him than he’d like to admit.  “Is there a soldier there? Change.”
Yuri hands the radio over to the soldier.  “Yes sir?”
“Let the lady gather information.”
“But…”
“My responsibility.”
“Roger!  You have permission.”  He is about to place the radio down when Yuri reaches out and takes it from him.
“Thank you….father.”
“Good luck!”
“Promise me you’ll come back alive.”
“I will!  And so will you!”   Yuri firmly clutches the radio in her hand, tears streaming down her cheeks.  At the moment Takeda comes pulling up in his car.  He smiles at Yuri, but she can only return a determined look.

From the loading bay of the command ship, the Satsuma and her sister ship, Satsuma III are slowly lowered into the water.  At the Satsuma’s control, Takeda knows that this could be his last day alive on earth.  With the two subs in the water, they slowly make their way to the location of the fighting monsters.

With Takeda by her side Yuri makes her way across the Yokahama Bay Bridge.  Hundreds of feet below, Godzilla and King Ghidorah continue to battle.  Stopping in one of the observation lounges, Yuri hands the camera to Takeda.  “I want you to run camera on me.”
“All right.”
Below, the flashes of light from the two battling creatures continue to grow, as the Satsuma draws closer to its target.  Pulling the bandage from around her head, Yuri begins what could be her final broadcast.  “The worries raise to defeat Godzilla.  The deep sea sub…nobody knows if they can make it.”
Around the nation, in homes, in bars, in her own office newsroom, thousands watch her report as it happens live.  “But I….want to report on this heavy struggle to protect Japan regardless of circumstances.  Our nation’s future until the very end.”
Suddenly a burst of Godzilla’s ray hits one of the supporting towers of the bridge.  As half the bridge collapses, Yuri is flung backwards out the observation lounge’s window.  Only Takeda’s quick action prevents her from falling to her death.  Firmly grasping her hand Takeda struggles to pull her back up to safety.

Below the surface, the two subs begin circling the battling creatures.  “The current must be warm!” Tachibana reports to Kobayakawa  in the Satsuma III. “Changing to thermography.” Tachibana reaches out to adjust the controls.  On the monitor, the view changes from one of an actual picture of the fight that is going on outside the sub, to an infer-red display, showing clearly where Godzilla is wounded.  Taking the key from his pocket Kobayakawa arms his torpedoes.
“Drop dead in the mud you bastard!” Kobayakawa shouts!
The two torpedoes make their way towards their mark, but Godzilla sees their approach, and at the last second swings around, placing King Ghidorah directly in their path.  The D-03 impale themselves into Ghidorah’s flesh.  The explosion knock Ghidorah to the bottom, where Godzilla unleashes his atomic breath.  The blast severely damages the three-headed beast.

“Let go of me!  We’ll both fall!”  Overhead Takeda continues to struggle to bring Yuri to safety.
“I’ll save you by all means!” he shouts.
Swinging from her arm, Yuri knows it is a lost cause.  ““Takeda!  Damn you!”

Below the surface, Godzilla has grabbed the Satsuma, and begins to slowly crush the sub.  “Tachibana!” Kobayakawa yells, as he positions his sub to shine it’s search lights directly into Godzilla’s eyes.  “Escape from Godzilla!”

On the bridge, Takeda is beginning to loose his grip.  As they struggle, the small piece of statue Yuri had picked up in Motosuo Forest falls from her pocket.  As it hits the water it begins to glow.  Slowly, it floats past Godzilla and the two subs, landing between the eyes of King Ghidorah’s middle head.  At that moment the remaining sections of the bridge shift, and both Yuri and Takeda plummet towards the water.  Alerted, the middle head of the three-headed beast creates a waterspout, which catches Yuri and Takeda in mid flight, slowing their fall.  The two splash into the water with no more force than a diver jumping from a diving board.  Ghidorah immediately begins to attack Godzilla, biting at his legs and tail.  Surprised, Godzilla loosens his grip on the Satsuma and the sub floats away.
Revived but still weakened, the three-headed monster breaks the surface of the water with Godzilla not far behind.  Mustering its remaining energy Ghidorah begins shooting electrical bolts at the King of the Monsters.  The attack surrounds Godzilla in a hale-storm of electrical charges, but does little to harm him.  Ghidorah continues to attack, but Godzilla seems unstoppable.  Finally, seeming to absorb the power surrounding him Godzilla unleashes his atomic breath, catching King Ghidorah off guard.  The blow is fatal.  As Ghidorah’s body is consumed in fire the images of all the Guardian Beasts appear to float before Godzilla.
From the shore, holding an unconscious Yuri, Takeda can hardly believe his own eyes. “Baragon?…Mothra?…King Ghidorah?”
As each of the beast appear, Godzilla roars in defiance.  Now with their life forces completely incorporated, the energy of the Guardian Beasts attacks and invades Godzilla.  Weakened, the King of the Monsters slips slowly under the water.
In the Satsuma, Tachibana watches Godzilla’s body sink, and makes one last attempt to deliver the final blow.  At full throttle Tachibana steers the Satsuma straight for Godzilla’s head.  From the command seat of the sister sub Kobayakawa tries to warn off his commander. “Admiral! Don’t go!  Pull back!”
But Tachibana will hear none of it.  As the King of the Monsters falls towards the bottom, the Admiral sails the Satsuma right down Godzilla’s throat!

In the commander center at the Ministry of Defense, General Mikumo and his staff watch the events in stunned horror.  “Admiral!  We have lost.”

Tumbling down Godzilla’s gullet, Admiral Tachibana hears his daughter’s voice.  “Father. Father.”
Looking up from the control panel Tachibana  sees his daughter standing next to him.  “Yuri?”
“Don’t give up.”
On the shoreline, Takeda is desperately trying to revise his friend.  “Yuri!   Yuri!”
Coughing, Yuri opens her eyes.  “Takeda!”
“Thank goodness!”
Yuri looks Takeda deep in the eyes.  Then, as if waking from a long dream, turns her attention towards the water.  “Father!  My father!!  Father!!!”
As the systems within the Satsuma come back on line Tachibana regains conciseness. Checking that all of his systems are fully operational he smiles to himself.  “Yuri…thank you.”  Programming the location of Godzilla’s wound into the torpedo, he fires the weapon!

With some of its strength regained Godzilla breaks the surface of Yokahama Bay.  Yuri and Takeda are directly in its path.  As they watch expecting nothing but death, the D-03 warhead pushes through the wound in Godzilla’s shoulder and explodes.  Reeling in pain the King of the Monster clutches at the gaping hole that now sits in his side.
“Father shot it!  He did it!!” Yuri exclaims in disbelief.
Noticing the two humans on the shoreline Godzilla begins to power-up his atomic breath.  But instead of the blast being directed through his maul, the blast releases itself through the hole in Godzilla’s side.  Reeling in pain, Godzilla tries to set of another blast.  Once again the ray exits his body from his wound.  Now completely blinded by range and pain.  Godzilla begins to power up again.  Only this time his decimated body can no longer contain the force.  Falling back into the bay Godzilla’s body begins to overload and break down.  Sailing through the hole in Godzilla’s side, the Satsuma escapes just before the creature explodes.  When the smoke and fire clears, there is nothing let of the King of the Monsters.

Back on the bridge of the command ship, an unbelieving radar technician reports the good news.  “Godzilla vanished! Gone from radar!  Possibly exploded!”
“The sub?” the captain asks.
Propelled by the force of the explosion, the Satsuma breaks the surface of Yokahama Bay.
“He’s back!” reports the radar operator.  “He’s come back!  The Satsuma’s surfaced! Admiral Tachibana has survived!”
Turning towards the radio, the captain issues very happy orders.  “Sub three, salvage sub one!”
At the controls of the Satsuma III, Kobayakawa responds to the order.  “Good!  I’m coming, Admiral!”

At that moment, in the offices of BS Digital Q, Managing Director Kadokura is responding to a very important phone call.  “That’s right!  She belongs to our company! Yuri Tachibana! Yes!  Thank you!” Turning toward the crew he exclaims, “Yuri’s safe!   With the news the room explodes with the cries of joy and laughter.
“OK!” Kadokura says.  “Let’s make a special program!  We got plenty of stock material! Insert the professor’s interview too!”
“I checked it.” Maruo walks up to his boss’s desk.  “Professor Ishiyama was lost when the first Godzilla came. Fifty years ago, he was 75 years old then.”
Stunned, the Kadokura cannot believe what he is hearing. “Fifty years ago?  Then who was the old man?”
“He’s gone from the tape!” Maruo replies.
The room fills with silence at the implication this suggest.

On the shoreline Yuri and Takeda race to the spot where Admiral Tachibana has come ashore.  “Father!” Yuri cries.
Holding up his hand he orders her to stop. “Halt! I haven’t been checked for radiation contamination!”
Yuri stops in her tracks, several feet from her father.  She knows that if her father has been contaminated then this will be a short reunion.  “Father.” She says, tears in her eyes.
“Just to make sure,” Tachibana reassures them.
Standing tall, she gives her father a hardy salute.
“Stop that! I’m embarrassed!” Tachibana tells her.  Smiling, Yuri nods.  “Salute not only me,” Tachibana continues, “but my friends and…. the sacred beasts!”
Turning, all three salute out towards the water.

At the bottom of Yokahama Bay, surrounded by fish hoping to get a quick meal, Godzilla’s heart slowly begins beating.
