Some More Questions Which Have Cropped Up In The Godzilla Series Through The Years
Dear Kaiju King,
1) How is it in the first Godzilla, the oxygen destroyer killed Godzilla
and his bones vanished but in Godzilla 2003 they make a third Mechagodzilla
by extracting dna from the bones?
It is suggested (by that very poorly executed "retake"
of the end of the first Godzilla film), that only Godzilla's body was destroyed
and that the bones just floated to the bottom of Tokyo Bay (again, this is
why Toho refilmed that part of the first film). It is also important
to remember that the most recent series of films (the Godzilla 2000 or "New"
Series) as some fans called them), are not connected to each other in any
way (with the exception of the new MechaGodzilla series). Therefore
Toho just changed the ending of the first film to fit their needs.
2) I have seen photographs from "Frankenstein Conquers
the World" which show Baragon fighting a number of tanks. Was this scene
shot for the film or were they just publicity shots?
The shots you are referring to were publicity shots used
by Toho to promote the film, and do not represent any actual filmed scene.
With the exception of the "devil fish" sequence at the end of the film,
the Japanese and American versions of the film are almost the same.
3) What ever happened to Ogata? In "Godzilla vs.
Destroyah" we see Emiko and mention is made of Dr. Serizawa, but there is
no mention of Ogata.
This was, and still is a very interesting point. We
must assume that characters in Godzilla films continue to "live" after the
events of the film, just as people in the real world continue to live their
lives day to day. However only the first four Godzilla films were produced
as direct sequels to each other, and this is evident by the appearance of
Dr. Yamane in "Godzilla Raids Again," and Godzilla's appearance out of the
ice burg in "King Kong vs. Godzilla." We must assume then that both
Ogata and Emiko tried to go on with there lives, but somehow never did get
married (you will notice in the film that Emiko is referred to as Emiko Yamane).
Maybe the strong feelings Emiko had at the sacrifice by Dr. Serizawa
made it impossible for her to marry Ogata; maybe she devoted her life to studying
Godzilla along side her father, maybe Ogata was killed in one of the other
Godzilla attacks in any of the other three films. We can speculate
all we want, but the only "facts" we are given in the films themselves is
that Emiko is referred to by her father's name, suggesting that, at the very
least, she did not marry Ogata.
