This month, the KaijuKing answers some more questions which have cropped up in the Godzilla series through the years in...
A Couple of Questions About Godzilla's Family
Dear Kaiju King,
1) Does the first Godzilla have much in common with the other Godzillas?
Only that it is of the same species. The Godzilla that appeared in
"Gigantis the Fire Monster" was a second Godzilla, and it is this second
Godzilla which is featured in all of the other films up until "Terror of
MechaGodzilla." As for the Godzilla in "Godzilla 1985" there are two
explanations for him. One is that he is the original '54 Godzilla regenerated,
the other is that he is a completely different Godzilla. The latter
makes more sense and would explain why in "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah" people
still know about Godzilla after the Future Men removed him from time.
The Godzilla's from "Godzilla 1985" until "Godzilla vs. Destroyah" are the
same creature.
2) Why isn't there a female Godzilla whenever Godzilla has a little one?
Actually Hauro Nakajima, the man who portrayed the original Godzilla from
1954 until 1972 claims that the Godzilla from "Gigantis the Fire Monster"
onward is female, and that the original '54 Godzilla was the male of the
species. Of course Kenpachiro Satsuma, who donned the Godzilla suit
from 1985 until 1995, insists that Godzilla is most definitely a male!
3) Do you know when "GMK: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack"
will be released in the U.S.A.?
As it stands right now don't expect a nation-wide theater release. "Godzilla
2000" did so poorly at the box office and then video sales were so low that
it seems unlikely that TriStar is willing to try and release any of the
latest films. The film will, however, be shown from time to time on
the Sci/Fi channel, dubbed in English, but a home video release seems some
time off.
